More than 30 members of staff at the Commercial Division of the High Court have been trained on the upcoming migration to the Electronic Court Case Management Information System (ECCMIS).
Ms Julian Rweju, the Judiciary Technical Advisor on ICT, facilitated the training, which was held at the Court on Friday (August 28, 2020).
She said the workshop had been organized so that staff at the Division could be acquainted with all matters regarding ECCMIS such as its purpose, features and benefits.
"The system will be able to facilitate the efficient and reliable collection, organization, distribution and retrieval of significant amount of case specific data as well as the processing of payment of relevant court fees and fines," she said.
The interactive session provided a platform to participants to present their views and get answers to their questions as well as allay their fears.
It also gave a snippet of how ECCMIS will operate. Aspects such as E-filing,E-payments, mobile phone App and E-processing are among the key features that will be possible with it.
The training was also meant to gain staff support towards the changes that may come during the implementation of the program.
The Court's Deputy Registrar, HW Susan Kanyange, assured the staff that the innovation is not geared at rendering them jobless but rather to ease their work.
A phased implementation of the project is set to begin with 19 courts, starting with all stations within Kampala and 1 upcountry court in Jinja before it is ultimately rolled out to all courts countrywide.
